Day 1 - Morning Session - The Gunshop and Indoor Range
The first session of the Defensive Shooting Pistol Academy focuses on the legal and practical foundations of carrying a firearm for self-defense.
🔹 Florida Self-Defense Laws & Aftermath of a Defensive Incident – Understand your rights and responsibilities, legal considerations, and the critical steps to take after using a firearm in self-defense.
🔹 Choosing a CCW Holster – Learn about different holster options, with a focus on inside-the-waistband (IWB) carry, and how to train safely with it.
🔹 Fitting Your Holster for Comfort & Concealment – Discover how to properly adjust your holster to fit your body type, ensuring both comfort and effective concealment.
🔹 Selecting the Right Firearm for Self-Defense – Explore key factors in choosing a firearm that suits your personal defense needs, lifestyle, and skill level.
This class lays the groundwork for safe and responsible concealed carry, preparing you for the hands-on training in the following sessions.
Day -1 Afternoon Session- The Gun Shop and Indoor Range
The afternoon session builds on the morning’s lessons by introducing real-world defensive shooting concepts and live-fire practice.
🔹 Defensive Shooting Statistics – Understand the average number of rounds fired, typical engagement distances, and real-world self-defense scenarios to shape your training mindset.
🔹 Fight or Flight & Fighting Stance – Learn how your body reacts under stress and how to develop a stable, effective stance for defensive shooting.
🔹 Grip for Defensive Shooting & Situational Awareness – Master proper grip techniques to control recoil and improve accuracy, while maintaining awareness of your surroundings during a defensive encounter.
🔹 Practical Exercises with a Training Firearm – Hands-on drills to reinforce stance, grip, and movement before transitioning to live-fire exercises.
🔹 Indoor Range Training – Apply what you’ve learned in a controlled environment, focusing on grip, accuracy, and situational awareness.
Additional Range Time: After class, students may remain on the range for additional personal practice. Holster draws and speed shooting are not permitted in the indoor range.
Day 2 - Morning Session - Ares Training Facility
The second day of training is focused on live-fire drills, defensive shooting techniques, and tactical movement to enhance real-world survivability.
🔹 Range Rules & Safety Briefing – Review essential safety protocols, range commands, and best practices to ensure a controlled and effective training environment.
🔹 Emergency Medical Preparedness – Learn how to apply a tourniquet (TQ) and pressure bandage, as well as how to request medical aid in a training environment.
🔹 Firearm Retention & Control – Understand how to maintain control of your firearm in a physical confrontation or high-stress situation.
🔹 Grip, Accuracy & Situational Awareness Drills – Reinforce proper grip, sight alignment, and target engagement while maintaining awareness of your surroundings.
🔹 Drawing from an Outside-the-Waistband (OWB) Holster – Learn how to efficiently and safely draw from an OWB holster, building speed and confidence.
🔹 Movement & Cover Techniques – Train to move off the “X” (getting off the line of attack) and use cover effectively to improve survivability in a gunfight.
🔹 Emergency & Tactical Reloads – Practice reloading under stress, including speed reloads and retention reloads for maximum efficiency.
🔹 Shooting to Stop the Threat & Multiple Targets – Develop the skills needed to accurately engage multiple threats, making decisive, effective shots under pressure.
This session is designed to build real-world defensive skills while reinforcing safety, situational awareness, and tactical decision-making.
What to Bring to Training
Day 1: Classroom & Indoor Range Training
✔ Notebook & Pen – Take notes on self-defense laws, holster selection, and shooting fundamentals.
✔ Water & Lunch – Stay hydrated and fueled throughout the day.
✔ CCW Firearm & Holster – Bring your concealed carry firearm with a properly fitted CCW holster (inside-the-waistband recommended).
✔ Magazines – Minimum of 3 magazines to allow for efficient drills.
✔ Ear & Eye Protection – Required for range time.
✔ Ammunition – Minimum of 50 rounds for live-fire training (bring extra if you plan to remain on the range for additional practice).

Day 2: Tactical Movement & Defensive Shooting
✔ Weather-Specific Gear – Dress appropriately for outdoor range conditions (rain gear, sunscreen, gloves, etc.).
✔ Water & Lunch – Hydration and nutrition are essential for long training sessions.
✔ OWB Holster – A quality outside-the-waistband holster for defensive shooting drills.
✔ Ear & Eye Protection – Mandatory for all live-fire exercises.
✔ Recommended: .22 Caliber Pistol – If you have one, a .22 caliber pistol with 3 magazines can be used for additional training repetitions.
✔ Ammunition – Minimum of 300 rounds for drills involving movement, reloads, and multiple target engagements.
